Hyperbaric Tunneling

Assembly, refitting and repair work in mechanical tunnel boring have become part of our core business.
We employ processes and equipment specially developed for these purposes, including certified cutting and welding work and a water jet cutting system that delivers pressures of up to 2,500bar.

For many years we have collaborated closely with authorities and other organisations to improve occupational safety and health protection standards. The worldwide regulations for hyperbaric work apply only to pressures up to 3.6bar (in HSE countries up to 3.45bar); beyond that there are no official standards and tables that permit or regulate such work.

We have developed our own decompression tables and procedures as well as rules and regulations and have copyrighted them. These are approved and recognized worldwide. In addition, we have developed a method that plans decompression and working times to achieve the most efficient results. We attach great importance to ensuring that this work is carried out exclusively by professionals with recognised qualifications and the requisite experience. For this purpose we offer a selection of training courses. To date, we have worked on more than 160 tunnel construction sites in 37 countries.

100th anniversary of the Old River Elbe Tunnel – Tunneling in Hamburg

On 7 September1911, the St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel was opened. The "pedestrian tunnel”, took the shipyard and dock workers faster and safer to the South Bank of the River Elbe. With its lifts for pedestrians and vehicles, the tunnel is among the "Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks in Germany” today. On the occasion of its completion 100 years ago, the Museum of Work tells the story of the "underworld in Hamburg”, the story of the planning and construction of tunnels and its consequences for the urban development.
